A customer was being overrun with data in their primary database growing at 100GB per day. This was causing issues with backups, disk space, performance and all round panic.
After significant refactoring we split their one database running SQL Server (On a VM) into two - one core database on SQL Azure Business Critical Tier and one historical database on SQL Azure Hyperscale.
